Off-Road Mode

The off-road mode is a unique feature of the Redarc Tow-Pro Link. In this mode, the brake controller will apply your trailer's brakes with a preset amount of power, independent of what your tow vehicle is doing.

This is ideal for off-roading or challenging conditions. Set the power low if you're towing through sand or mud so that the trailer doesn't stop with too much force and act as an anchor. If navigating a steep descent, set the power to a higher level to ensure that the trailer doesn't push against the tow vehicle.

What is Proportional Braking?

What is proportional Braking

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The Tow-Pro Link uses an internal 6-axis accelerometer and gyrometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

Easy Install, Smart Design, Minor Cord Quibble

I
recently purchased the Redarc off-road rated trailer brake controller and have been very happy with it. Even as an etrailer employee, I was genuinely excited to see this product hit the market, and after using it, it hasn’t disappointed.

Installation was about as easy as it gets. The physical install was quick and straightforward with no splicing, cutting, or fishing for wires. I mounted the control box to the frame above my spare tire, which keeps it protected from road debris and completely out of the way.

Calibration took a couple of short test drives to dial in, which has been my experience with other brake controllers as well. Once set, braking has been smooth and consistent.

One feature I really appreciate is the removable controller. When I’m not towing, I can store it in my center console. I also like that I don’t have to rely on my phone for brake control. I’ve used the Curt Echo before, and by comparison, using a phone for braking always felt a bit inconvenient.

That said, the app still adds real value. Being able to test my trailer lights from my phone is a huge plus and saves a lot of time compared to the usual back-and-forth or needing a second person. It’s probably my favorite non-braking feature.

My only downside is the corded controller. I’d love to see a future version with a USB-C connection instead of the standard USB.

Overall: 10/10, would buy again.

I like the Redarc Tow-Pro Link because the main module installs out of sight behind the 7-way, which means no bulky controller hanging under the dash. I also like that it uses Bluetooth, which means there’s no reaching under the dash to adjust gain. If your vehicle has Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you can make adjustments right from the screen. If not, the included remote works just as well, which is especially convenient in states where it’s illegal to have your phone out while driving.

The sway control feature really stands out to me. It lets you press a button if the trailer starts swaying from wind or passing traffic, and the controller applies the trailer brakes only to help pull everything back in line. It takes the guesswork out of reacting in the moment and settles things down quickly without locking up the brakes. I also like having Off-Road Mode for gravel or loose surfaces.

This is a great option if you want a clean install without giving up strong, reliable braking.

2025 dodge Ram Pickup

This was super easy to install. Works great on my 2025 Ram 1500 3.6 pulling 6000# 2 axle Keystone Premier. Nice to see it on the app, CarPlay and the easily hidden remote. Can unplug and put away the remote when not in use. I didn’t have my trailer accessible when I first tried installing it so just know you can’t do any set up without the trailer connected.

So far I have hooked everything up, which was very easy. My trailer is currently out of state but looking forward to seeing it work.

Nice! This thing is definitely an easy install! What vehicle did you install it on? Oh and what are your thoughts on the app? This is still very new to market so we are open to any and all feedback!

  • Will Redarc Tow Pro Link Work In 2024 Tacoma TRD That Has OEM 7 Way But No Brake Controller?
Yes, Jeff, your 2024 Tacoma TRD is a great match, as is any vehicle with a 7 way connector on the back. You’ll just want to use the Redarc # RED57AR and you won't need anything else. It connects in front of the 7 way outlet on your vehicle, then plugs in via USB in your cab. You can also use your phone to operate the controller. No cutting or splicing is needed. We had a neighbor who completed his install in less than 10 minutes and was towing his Jayco trailer the next morning with full...

  • Brake Controller for 2021 Volkswagen Atlas With Tow Package
Hey Ryan, welcome back! A brake controller will cover anything with brakes and then you will also need a ball mount. The # C57DR you were looking at will work, but you don't really need all of that. The sway bar would be a permanent addition to a single trailer so it wouldn't work on anything else you may tow later on. The Echo is convenient, but a lot of people have issues with the app so I don't really recommend it anymore. Nothing would be more frustrating then trying to get on the...

  • Will Redarc Tow-Pro Link Work On 2021 Silverado 1500 With Factory Brake Controller
Hi Jeff, welcome back and sorry to hear that gave you so much trouble. The Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller # RED57AR will work on your Silverado. This plugs in-line at the back of your 7-way at the rear of the truck. You can either disconnect the OEM brake controller completely or sever the brake output wire before it gets to the 7-way connector and cap it off. If you cut the wire the OEM controller will still send power back for brakes but it will never actually make it...

  • How To Mount Remote Button For Redarc Tow Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller
Hey there Brianna, the Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller # RED57AR can be mounted just about anywhere in the cab where there is a hard surface like plastic or vinyl. Most mount it on the dash or center console area. The nice thing about it is that it's not permanent; if it ever needs to be moved or cleaned, the sticky adhesive can be washed with water and once it dries, it will be as sticky as new! Here is a photo of the remote installed in the center area of a newer vehicle....

  • How Does Redarc Tow-Pro Link SwayStop Work?
Hey Kevin, great questions! The Redarc Tow-Pro Link # RED57AR SwayStop works with the simple push of a button. All you have to do is press the manual override (SwayStop button in the picture below) once and it will kick in to get your trailer sway under control. The Link has a 6-axis accelerometer so once you press the button the brake controller will sense the vehicle sway at the rear and apply the brakes accordingly until it stops.

  • Can Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller # RED57AR Work on 2017 Ram 3500 w OEM Controller
Hey David, the Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller # RED57AR that you referenced will fit any vehicle that has a 7-way installed on it including your 2017 Ram 3500 that has a factory brake controller. This will bypass that circuit on your truck so the OEM controller will no longer be functional while this will take it's place. How do you like the OEM controller?

Hey Rick, the Redarc Tow Pro Link part # RED57AR will easily replace your ITBC in your 2014 Ford F-350 and it will work great. Now with that said usually weak trailer brakes are not the fault of the brake controller and instead it's wiring to the brakes or something mechanical like them being out of adjustment or a grease seal blew in the hub and now the assemblies and drums are covered in grease. Are you absolutely sure the problem is the brake controller? Have you tried a different tow...

  • Does Brake Output Wire on USCAR Harness Need To Be Hooked Up To Use Redarc Tow-Pro Link?
Hey Andrew. The Redarc Tow-Pro link will indeed work just fine for your 2026 Toyota BZ, and due to it not needing a brake output wire you do not need to hook up the brake out put wire at all. You'll plug the USCAR pig tail # 20147 into the Tow-Pro Link, and then the other end will plug into the 7-way # TK37CR. The controller will pick up the signal from your light circuit, and will output the braking power through the 7-way. Just make sure to hook up constant 12v power to the 7-way with...

  • Sway Control for 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV Towing 2024 inTech Flyer Forge
Hey Jack! An aluminum frame can be tricky when it comes to a weight distribution hitch (WDH) with sway control. The first thing you need to do is reach out to inTech and see if a WDH can be used on their trailers. Some manufacturers allow it, some do not, it really depends on the overall design of the trailer. It’s fully automatic and uses internal sensors to detect motion and orientation. Once it’s set up, you don’t need to recalibrate unless you remove the unit or change vehicles.
