Hi Jack!
Little surprised you can't unplug the back of your 7-way, but it isn't the end of the world. You do have a few options and you can still use the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002, but you will need alter the wiring.
If you look at the attached image, you can see the wiring that needs to be connected to your 7-way. You can extent those wires and connect to the USCAR plug you used for the aftermarket 7-way. Or if you don't have a USCAR connection, you can cut that part of this plug off and splice the black wire into the ground and red wire into the reverse light wires on your 7-way. You could actually splice it into the running light wire if you wanted it on all the time as well.
If you didn't want to do that, you could also use one of the following wireless systems:
RVS Wireless Hitch Camera - Magnetic Base - 70' Range - Night Vision - 3.5" LCD # RVS87FR
Swift Hitch Digital Wireless Hitch Alignment Camera and Monitor - Night Vision - 8-Hr Camera Battery # SH02Digital
The RVS camera system has a slightly lower run time of 6 to 7 hours, but I think it is the better one. It is more expensive though.
Are you wanting a camera for attaching a trailer to a hitch or just to make backing up easier?

Hey Jack, how did things go with wiring the Hopkins Smart Hitch camera on your Silverado? Your update could make it easier for others working with aftermarket 7-way plugs. Did you end up going with the wired setup or one of the wireless camera options?
