Tie-Down Points Needed For Securing A Load With An Adjustable-Fit Trailer Hitch

Updated 04/12/2024 | Published 04/11/2024

Question:

Hi etrailer! The installation instructions for this adjustable rv hitch mentions that all non-trailer loads require stabilizing straps. Does this mean for example that if this were attached to a travel trailer, and a bike rack was ed into the receiver, that the bike rack must be secured with straps? What if theres nothing on the back of the trailer to attach the straps to? Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Hey Don,

This isn't always the case for every adjustable-fit trailer hitch but Curt does require it with their # 13703. If you don't have a tie-down nearby to connect a strap to then you can use a stud finder to locate studs in the back wall of the RV and bolt on some anchors # 348825. I'd put like three or four anchors to give yourself a bit of adjustability when securing your load and then you can use ratchet straps, cam straps, etc. to wrap around the load and clip onto the anchor d-rings.
