The Hopkins EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift Assist # 74211 is a confirmed fit for your 1996 Dodge Ram 1500. The only video we currently have for it is just Rob explaining how it works and not really going through the installation, but this does come with a template to help you know exactly where to drill into the bed and tail gate of the truck to get the assist in place.
