Installation of ICX Transmitter of Even Brake System on a 2012 Honda CR-V

Updated 03/28/2014 | Published 03/27/2014

Question:

I will be hooking this up to an even brake. The even brake calls for a wire from the brake light to the icx controller. Can this wire be used for this? I think so but want to make sure. this is for a 2012 Honda crv Thanks

The connection that needs to be made for the ICX controller on your Even Brake System # RM-9400 is not incorporated into the Tow Daddy taillight wiring harness # TD3012.

For the installation of the ICX controller for the Even Brake System # RM-9400 on your 2012 Honda CR-V you will need to install the Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 that is included that usually supplied with the Even Brake. This installation is diagrammed in the instructions that I will be sending to you in a separate e-mail.

You will cut the light blue wire that is your brake light switch wire on your 2012 Honda CR-V. The side that is closest to the brake light switch will connect to the green wire on the relay. This wire has an additional connection that has a female spade connector. The female connector will connect to the ICX controller in the 1 position using the spade connector. I believe that this is the wire that you are referencing.

The other side of the light blue wire on your CR-V will connect to the black wire on the brake lite relay using the existing blue butt connector. I have included the diagram that is included in the instructions showing this installation for your reference.

The other wires for installation on the ICX transmitter connect as follows:

White and Black Wire with Specialty Tip - Brake Away Harness
Red and White Twisted wire - Red connects to the power wire with a spade connection on the Relay Kit, and the White connects to a vehicle ground.

For installing the Even Brake System you will also have to provide power to the braking system. To do this you can use the # RM-9332 outlet kit. When installing this make sure that the fuse you connect to has power to it when the key is turned to the accessory position.

You may also need to pull a couple of fuses for flat towing your vehicle. This will be indicated in the owners manual, so please check yours to see if and which fuse(s) may need to be pulled before flat towing. If you would like you can use the Roadmaster Fuse Master # RM76511 for a single fuse or the # RM76512 for two fuses.

The Tow-Daddy Tail light wiring harness that you referenced is confirmed as a fit for Honda CR-Vs from 2007-2011, and may not work on your 2012 Honda CR-V. I have provided a link to the tail light wiring harness that are considered a fit for your specific vehicle.

Of these options I recommend using the Hopkins # HM56304. This is a very similar installation to the Tow Daddy option that you referenced above, and includes a T-One style of connector. This will also provide a 4-way flat connection for your motorhome.

For a complete towing system, in addition to your braking system and wiring kit you will need a tow bar, base plate kit and safety cables. Please feel free to let me know if you need any of these additional components and I would can provide specific recommendations.
