Which is Better Roadmaster or Blue Ox Tow Bar

Updated 01/20/2026 | Published 03/21/2022

Question:

I am interested in purchasing either the Blue Ox or Road master tow bars. I will be making this purchase by the first of April, and would like to know which product you think is better? I will also be needing the baseplate. This will be for a driveaway business, so I value your opinion. Both are highly recommended, and I know that the Blue Ox can be left on the tow vehicle, can the road master also be left on the tow vehicle? Thank you!

Both the Roadmaster and Blue Ox tow bars are great options. But if it was my decision to make I would go with the Blue Ox Avail part # BX7420 as we have found that the Blue Ox tow bars are a little easier to connect and disconnect from. Also this tow bar has a 10,000 lb weight capacity so it would easily cover basically anything. The Avail has longer arms too which helps the vehicle track a little better as well.

@PeterR I wish we had something but Blue Ox doesn't have base plate fits for vehicles that old at this time.

I used nighthawk tow bar because it installs in minutes and has led lites for at nite. I mounted my invisabrake under front seat facing toward door for safety reasons there is nothing on either side you could kick that would damage anything
