if I have a ten foot trailer should I get 8 ft or 5 ft sections also will e track hold without the 6inch big bottom plates- how many plates per foot of e track tu

If you wanted e-track to run the entire length of the trailer then you would want two 5 foot sections like part # E19148.
We recommend the backing plates like part # e96RR, but if you have a strong floor on your trailer that would be strong enough for what you plan to secure with the E-track then you could attach the tracks directly to the floor instead. If you went with the plate I would do at least three of them for either the 8 or 5 foot sections.
If you choose to use screws, be sure the underside of the head is flat and not curved so it sits flush on the E-Track. I also recommend using screws long enough to pass through the plywood and into the support beams where you can. This will provide the best support for the E-Tracks. Most local hardware stores can give you the best options.
