Troubleshooting Hopkins Backup Camera that Does not Turn On When Put in Reverse
Published 08/27/2015 >
Question:
I installed the monitor and ran the wiring on my 2006 F-150. It has the trailer towing package so I did not need to splice any wires. I put die electric grease on all the connections in the rear of the vehicle, including the camera wire connection in the rear. I undid the connection in the door frame molding area and still does not come on.

First thing you need to check is the reverse light circuit on the 7-way of your truck. On most vehicles this circuit is active, but not always. Using a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the center pin of the 7-way for voltage when the vehicle is in reverse. Most likely this is the problem.
You would need to run a wire from the center pin to the reverse light circuit of your taillight wiring to activate this circuit.
