It has been a beast I have a dump trailer that Ive hauled loads of concrete and sand. With tongue weight around 1600lbs no signs of stress or weld fractures very well built wouldnt scare me to put 2000lb tongue weight on it. Very good product

1995 Ford F-150

Installed on my 1995 F150. Great product, arrived in two days just like etrailer stated, box a little beat up, but all the parts were safely taped to the hitch, easy to install. I probably spent 4 hours total, but that was because of a lack of holes in my frame, wanting to de-burr after drilling, needing to grind some bolts that interfered with the hitch bolts and lacking some of my tools because I was on the road and installed it away from my home/shop. I could see a one hour install under the right conditions. The fit could not be any better. It did require removing the ball on my bumper hitch as the new hitch comes very close to the bottom of the bumper, but I did not need to remove my spare tire to install.

Absolutely high quality hitch, bolted right on to my 1974 power wagon to replace another brand name hitch that the welds failed. This one very heavy built and gives peace in mind that I no longer have to worry about my hitch failing while pulling heavy.

Gosh! Failing welds sounds pretty scary! I hope there wasn't any sort of accident on the road or anything! Glad to hear you can have some peace of mind now, with the new hitch :) What do you tow?

@BrookeM last hitch failed towing a smaller forklift, about 12k including trailer weight. Luckily no one was hurt. Generally tow a enclosed 24ft car trailer

@BrookeM was quite a situation for sure, but thankfully no one was hurt. Yes, primarily I tow few of my cars for car shows, mainly a 1965 factory five shelby cobra

@William Glad it's working well for you! What kind of cars are you typically towing? Is it a work thing or more of a fun thing?

Overall I'm very happy with this product. It looks to be high quality with a high quality finish. I've had other Curt products hold up well in the rust belt and I have no reason to doubt that this one will.

I do have two minor complaints. I was having a hard time finding good information on how far this receiver would hang down, and once installed I wish it was about 2" higher. There's a bigger gap than I'd like below my standard step bumper and it reduces the clearance to the bolt holding my spare tire up. Everything fits and works, I'd just prefer it to be 2" higher, or at least to have been able to figure that out before ordering so I could have seen if there was one that might fit better.

The other issue is that the hitch frame was just a little too wide for my truck frame. I get that fitting a range of vehicles that are decades old is a challenge. But when I drilled the holes in the truck frame where they needed to be to work with the hitch they were too close to the vertical part of the truck frame so the washers provided in the installation kit would not fit. I was able to make them fit by cutting a little off one side of each washer.

But I don't want this review to sound too negative. As I said, overall I'm very happy with this product and I would buy it again (if I couldn't find something that rode about 2" higher).

1996 Pontiac Trans Sport Van

perfect heavy duty hitch, is the second one I've installed. the finish could be a little stronger slight chipping during transport and install. I like the low profile too because the 2" receiver square is ran through the actual hitch instead of being welded on the bottom. less likely to drag going through ditches and is tucked up under the truck nicely.

by:

great! More hevy duty than I thought, however so is the truck.Perfect fit with a liftgate and a utility bed.Very fast free shipping, Thank You!

No big deal for me.

Happy with product however without modification to existing 10” drop bumper wouldn’t have allowed for the installation.

I am glad you are liking the hitch! It looks like this was the hitch meant for the standard bumper rather than the 10" drop bumper so modification would be required. What are you planning on using the hitch for?

by:
2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

The hitch is awesome, but the packaging really needs an upgrade. this is the second hitch i have ordered and they both came in destroyed boxes. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars.

by:

Was a great replacement to my broken factory unit plus it was technically an upgrade to what the factory unit was listed as.

by:

I installed this hitch on a 1991 Dodge W250. It hangs down lower than it needs to for the factory bumper and required drilling the frame to install the hitch. Drilling the frame and the overall installation went well, however there are existing holes that could've been used had the hitch been designed differently. I do understand this hitch is designed for several applications and in that situation it is difficult to make every vehicle a perfect fit. This hitch is very stout, I like the one piece design and the load rating. I have a 14,000 gvw flatbed that I haul a variety of junk on and this hitch is definitely up for the job. The next time I need a hitch I will definitely consider this one.

by:
ford F-250 Super Duty

Product is very solid.only one complaint, I have1978 f250 I installed this on and it all fit properly except the square block plate spacers. They were slightly too big and wouldn’t line up to drop the bolts down through them and the frame. I ended up having to grind all six down on the one side so they would line up properly. Not a big deal if you’ve got a bench grinder but still an extra step not mentioned anywhere that would stop the average joe from being able to proceed.

by:
1993 Dodge Ram Pickup

I put this on our 1993 Dodge dually after I noticed what looked like stress fractures on the old hitch while I was having an exhaust leak repaired. The failure was probably caused by an overloaded dump trailer full of gravel. The price for this Class V hitch from etrailer couldn’t be beat so I bought it. I’ve since pulled serveral large loads with my 3400lb dump trailer, the heaviest being a load of gravel weighing 5.67 tons according to the bill. More than 1000lbs shy of the 16000lb limit and it pulled great, even at over 60 mph. This hitch is heavy and well made. I use a forged ball mount with square tube clamp attached to make the assembly rigid. You’ll be amazed at how much this will quiten all of your towing. I feel like I got a great deal from etrailer on this hitch and wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again if we get another truck.

by:
1996 Ford F-250 and F-350

Hitch came in when expected and shipped fast. Some information for people buying this for a 1996 Ford truck, my truck came with what looks like a deep drop bumper as it looked the same as what etrailer shows in their example but it is not as tall at 7 3/4 inches. This hitch fits with space to spare if your bumper is that tall. It is definitely made of thicker material than the old hitch I had on my truck which is expected as it has a higher capacity. It installed easily with one exception, like another reviewer, it was necessary to trim down a side of the metal plates that are used like oversized washers because they would not sit flush due to the curve of the truck frame. It would be nice if the instructions gave some advice on how close to the edge of the truck frame you should drill. Also it comes with 9/16 and 1/2 hardware? Why not just make it all 9/16 so you don't have to swap bits and ensure you have the correct bolt size where it needs to go. One last issue not due to Curt but on Etrailers side. They ship it in a box with nothing to try and keep it from sliding around. This does not come in a box from CURT as it says etrailer on it. The box was beat up and obviously opened during shipping and the shipper had to tape it back shut. Lack of packing materials lets this move around and "punch" through the box. This also caused dings and chips in the finish which will now likely rust if you are in an area with high humidity. Overall good just packaging needs to be better. I get its a hitch and its gonna get dinged at some time but let that be my mistake.

Curt hitch fit perfect on my 1997 F250HD with a 38gal. rear tank upgrade. Etrailer was reasonably priced and ship time was very reasonable. Follow up from start to finish (Lauren) was an unexpected bonus especially in today’s world.

1997 Ford F-250 and F-350 Heavy Duty

Very happy with the product. Was able to install by myself in a little over an hour, fit like a glove and has performed flawlessly with the loads of firewood I've been hauling. Shipping was fast, and the overall experience with etrailer was absolutely fantastic. Etrailer was one of the only websites that had an accurate description of the frame width/depth dimensions that made ordering the right hitch a breeze. Would recommend Etrailer to anyone in the market for Heavy Duty/Standard Duty Receiver Hitches, and all other trailer needs. Thanks for the great product and will be hauling with this hitch for some time. Have a Blessed day

by:
2013 Ford Ranger

The hitch is extremely heavy duty and I highly recommend this product. Etrailer has great customer service, I received the hitch a day before the expected arrival date. I installed this on my 1977 Ford F-150 Ranger with the help of my 13 yr old grandson. This receiver hitch fit my truck perfectly, no modifications were needed. We removed the spare tire, drilled the holes and mounted the hitch per the instructions. The entire process took a little over an hour. I use a Shocker Hitch with an airbag, and it fits this hitch perfectly. I highly recommend Etrailer.

by:

Great hitch! Been using this quite a bit. Install wasn’t too bad, drilled the holes and mounted as required. Hauled a 16’ flat trailer load of firewood for about 70 miles numerous times. I’ve also hauled a 6x10 enclosed trailer packed full of sound equipment hundreds of miles. Have also hauled just over a ton of scrap a handful of times. Very robust hitch that has given me zero problems.

by:
1996 Chevrolet Cobalt

One extremely tough hitch. I have a 1996 Ford F250, the body shop thought it wouldn't work. I got it home and with a lot of grunting and drilling (use a new cobalt bit), I was able to bolt it, one side at a time. When drilling, use some cutting oil that's used for black iron pipe (Oatey, found in plumbing will work).

To make sure your carriage bolt plate will seat flat, make sure to drill as close inward toward the center of your vehicle as you can, allowing yourself enough metal as is reasonable. Thanks etrailer for the expedited shipping and great phone help. I've attached some pics for those who want to see what it looks like installed.

1989 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350

I'm pleased with my purchase. I wanted the highest capacity for my 1988 F350 4WD Crew Cab, that I could find. This one at the time I selected it, had the second highest towing, distributed-towing, and tongue weight rating of all of them (that would fit my truck). There was a really nice Torklift that had double (stacked) 2x2 receivers with the best rating, but it was significantly more expensive, and the Curt I got matches my truck's max tow rating. I didn't set out to get the welded one-piece unit, but it just turned out that way. Having seen it in person, and installed it, if someone has a similar truck, I'd have no problem recommending. It's a heavy heavy unit, that will last the lifetime of the truck.

Hi Don, There aren't any Class V hitches that will work for your 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with your aftermarket bumper, so you'll have to revert to a different bumper if you'd like to install one, and that includes the Curt hitches you mentioned. Since you don't have the factory bumper you can't use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15319, so you'd have to go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15300.

Because the mounting flange of the Curt # C15511 Class V hitch has 3 tabs on each side, rather than a continuous mounting flange like many other hitches, it'll fit around the rivet shown in your photo. However, be aware that the Curt # C15511 is a fit for cab/chassis models only and won't fit a vehicle that has a standard truck bed on it. Chassis/cab models have a narrower frame which is why this hitch wouldn't work on a pickup model. If you have a pickup model with the 37-1/2 inch frame...
