Hi, everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at the Victron Orion 24-volt to 12-volt DC-to-DC converter. It's a high-power, efficient solution to get you reliable 12-volt power from a 24-volt battery bank. Now, this is a very rugged converter. It's going to deliver up to 70 amps of continuous output. That's going to give you around 840 watts of stable 12-volt power.
So it's ideal for powering those 12-volt lights, fridges, pumps, maybe electronics, other DC loads from that 24-volt system. And it's pretty small and yet robust. It has a wide input voltage range of 18 to 35 volts, and it's going to keep those 12-volt outputs steady, even as that 24-volt battery fluctuates under loads. You can also adjust the output voltage, 10 to 15 volts, to fine-tune it for your system's independent needs with a factory default of about 13.2 volts. Installation is pretty straightforward.
You're going to use heavy-duty M6 bolt terminals and remote on/off inputs, and those are going to let you control the switch or ignition circuit, or rather control this with a switch or ignition circuit. And if you need even more power, you can parallel up to five units, in parallel, to increase your output capacity. As you can see on the backside, this has a built-in fan. It's going to have a temperature control cooling. It's going to run reliably under those demanding conditions, while it can also idle low to help conserve energy whenever the loads are light.
