Best Volkswagen Golf Alltrack Roof Racks

I got a really great deal on this MPG201 kit via the "used" section, which wasn't used - I contacted support and it was listed essentially as "damaged in shipping" but fully functional, which it was. It came with no keys but I used a small flathead screwdriver to unlock them, necessary for rack installation. Not a biggy. One of the plastic feet split on install, which Malone rectified without hassle, and sent keys, when I contacted them with a photo. They make a decent rack for the money, I bought a different kit from them years ago. The connection beneath the roof rails is minimal but seems sufficient for surf and snowboards. I sent photos to Malone who confirmed the install is correct.

These 50” rack and risers fit as advertised on our 2017 MiniCooper Clubman with use of the clamp adapter. Just finished testing them to transport two bikes up, over and back across the Appalachian Mts on both steep backwoods roads and open highway with zero problems. Unrelated to this product, I had a comparability problem with my Yakima bike rail clamps that are smaller than the roof racks diameter and require some finagling which others might not be able to make work. So check on clamp size comparability if these are to replace an existing Yakima roof carrier system. Again, this is not an etrailer product critique!

The only problem I had, was when I watched the video showing how to install the rack, I did not realize that the actual installation process was a lot more complex. For example, the woman who was in the video only showed the installation one rack (I believe itg was the back rack and she gave the width measurement for that one. The front rack was already on the car and the woman neglected to say, "check your manual. The width of the front rack (may be) different than the back. She also did not explain carefully that there were three different screws that needed to be adjusted for a proper fit so the towers were properly adjusted for yoiur specific car. (My car is a 2018 Chevy Volt.) (I also bought Yakima kayak cradles from you guys, which were easy to install.) However, I blame myself for not reading the manual carefully, so when I installed the racks, they did not fit right and one of them actually fell off while I was driving. (Luckily there were kayaks on and no one was hurt. The two towers were damaged but luckily the rack and the kayak cradles were fine. I called etrailers and was told I had to contact Yakima, which I did. I explained to the Yakima customer service rep that I was at fault for trusting the video and not reading the manual carefully and after asking me to send him photos of the damaged towers he sent me two new towers for free, as well as another torque wrench, so I could work with a second person. This time I read the manual carefully and watched the Yakima video many times during the a week before I felt confident enough to try installing the racks again. This time they fit perfectly. I love both the rack and the kayak cradles. I use them to transport my two kayaks down to the Hudson River near my house and have also used them to carry the kayaks to a family camping site 50 miles away, confident they are safe and secure. But please, review the video you put out for the installation of the racks onto a 2017 Chevy Volt, and either correct the shortcomings by doing it over, with an explanation about the adjustment of the widths, and also reading the manual and finding the correct positions for the adjustment screws. (Or delete it and refer your customers to the Yakima installation video. Though it’s more generic than yours, at least the tell the customer to refer to the manual.

Rack looks sturdy. For my 2017 vw Alltrack the rear bar could be replaced for a shorter. On my side picture that is as far back the bar will go (item ja7975). Which it worked out for this application if you want the bar further aft a shorter bar will be needed. The front fit well within it’s range. The car tapers towards the back so back bar is shorter. I also dont like how VW put a notch on the bottom rail. It looks like the straps will be easy to cut with a bolt cutter.

Bought the Thule Wingbar Evo 118 crossbars and Thule Evo Raised Rail footers and installed them on my 2016 RAV4. Pretty easy to install and I did watch a few videos online to make sure I was doing everything right. I like the new raised rail system from Thule as it is clamp style versus the rubber strap - both work very well, but the newer clamp system is nice because the tool you use to tighten the footings clicks when it reaches the right tightness so you don't over tighten it. I recommend these rails and the footings (Thule 710401) as the system is quiet when driving and looks good.

The 50” jetstream cross bars were perfect for my 2019 Ford Ranger with my ARE cap. They are paired with the Yakima Skyline towers and appropriate landing pads (protip: call etrailer when you order to ensure you have the correct setup;) These cross bars are SILENT on my cap. Zero wind noise. My daughter and I installed them on a Friday (I do recommend watching etrailer’s installation video in addition to the paper instructions) and left for a 700 mile weekend road trip the next day to pick up a kayak, paddle with friends downstate then drop her off at summer camp. Even with empty Yakima Jaylows on top, no wind noise. Even with a boat in the Jaylows, no wind noise. These are the sweetest rack’s I’ve had. With the Skyline towers and landing pads, they are also easy to take off and put on. Click click done. They look good, too;) etrailer customer service for the win, too. When I originally ordered, I did not order all the items I needed for installation. When I realized this, I called and they got me squared away.

Yakima Baseline with Yakima CBX 18 Cargo Box fitted on my 2012 Toyota Corolla S Sedan 2012. Instructions were clear and roof rack was easily installed.

The Rhino Racks Vortex Aero are solid. My first drive with them was to Brighton Utah from Riverside California. They were not only secure throughout the drive and hard winds, they were also reasonably quiet. On top I attached a Thule Force L 628 roof box and it fits perfectly. The only complaints I have are how difficult it was to install the racks to my fixed points. It took several friends, a mechanic, and two days to get everything right.

Bought and installed on my 2019 Honda Fit. I’ve driven from Chicago to Big Bend in TX and to the Black Hills in SD with a cargo box attached and have had zero issues. Installation is simple enough and are easy to take off when needed.

Worked as designed. Some measurement needed to cut and install seal between attachment brackets, and little trial and error to center/balance the bar across both points (just as one would with a cargo box).

I've had these on my car for a year now. They are decent for the money and I think they look pretty good too. One very weak point is the plastic end caps. They snap on and are flimsy. I lost one in short order and broke another one sliding a sheet of plywood over it. It would not be hard for them to design a better cap that is fastened better to the rails. I 3D printed new ones that work great and installed with a screw.

Yakima stuff is pretty good. If it were not so over priced (and this retailer gave the best deal) I'd rate it 4 stars. However, I know from past experience that Yakima bars, despite coating on the current bars that is significantly thinner than older bars, will rust if used near water. They sell this stuff for water sports! And then act surprised that it rusts. Since I have a lot of their stuff and old rusty bars I bought these as a replacement despite my misgivings. The foregoing is NOT a criticism of this vendor who sold the stuff at a good price compared to what Yakima wants and delivered it promptly

roof racks showed up in great condition, and showed up as one package.... I should have ordered the J racks from here but I found them cheaper locally so Thule J racks compliment the whole setup and i am just about ready to hit the water :)

Two issue- 1) my old Hull-a-ports don't fit perfectly on them. Had to do a little jerry rigging. It works, no problems but it would have been nice to know. 2) without any attachment on these bars, at speeds >40 MPH (70 KPH) These things cause the most God awful scream that almost precludes opening the windows they are so loud.

Great looking product. Fits very well on the car and the bars are actually pretty quiet. It is somewhat a pain to mount and dismount so plan on 30-45 minutes at least. In my opinion, if you put them on leave them there for the season as it is not very friendly to mount or dismount.

Purchased for an 8000 mile roadtrip last summer. A perfect fit for our Ford Flex. Easy to locate correct model on etrailer.com website and best price we could find. Install was a snap with good instructions. Great customer support at Thule - totally class company. We used it to mount our Thule luggage carrier as well as fishing poles on the sides. Had minimal effect on MPG. Couldn't be happier with Thule AND etrailer.com.

If an AreoBlade is going to be installed at or near the Rear of a (2014) Ford Flex, the smaller unit (7503) should be used. The Factory Installed Roof Side Rails taper-in from 44.5" at the Front to 42.5" at the Rear. Dual 7504's work OK when installed towards the Front and/or Middle of the Rails. Rep. from etrailer.com (Kelly S.) was super to deal with !

The Rhino Rack HD crossbar kit for tracks fits my SyneticUSA Pro retractable cover perfectly. RR includes several track nuts of different sizes to match to your particular track. I love the quick detach capability of the towers and that they also lock for security. The HD bars are essentially the same dimension of 1 5/8" unistrut/superstrut so you can find all sorts of attachment hardware outside of what RR makes. This makes it easy to securely bolt your gear down to the cross bars and customize with easy to find hardware at your local home depot. The 65" HD bars are perfect for a mid size truck like my Tacoma.

The rack more than exceeded my expectations. It was easy to assemble and mount on the cap of my Tacoma truck. I was pleasantly surprised by the aerodynamics which virtually eliminate wind noise, even at highway speed. I pirchased the rack as a permanent mount for a 4rod flyrod holder which I use daily for fishing. The Rhino keeps everything “tight and right”. It has worked perfectly for nearly three hundred trips and over 15,000 miles this year.

Thule rack looks great on my Kia Telluride. The pieces took a while to get to me because they were on backorder but it's not etrailer, they were on backorder everywhere. I messed up a piece of the rubber while installing and etrailer sent me another one free of charge. Would definitely recommend etrailer.

Great product, excellent quality, great finish very sturdy and mounted to my Vortex bars perfectly. Couple of cons but I'm not going to knock down the review because of it. Product came with instructions that are out of date for the new racks they are shipping. Platform also came with some missing hardware. Two missing nut retainers,two nuts,two screws and two washers. Was able to put it together with Hardware I had on hand..

The Rhino pioneer roof rack and vortex crossbars are going to work great on my Ram Truck with Retrax tonneau cover to help me carry extra gear. I also have the Yakama HD overhaul rack for carrying my kayaks. Everthing fits perfectly!

Crossbars and risers fit like a charm on factory roof rails of 2023 Honda ridgeline RTL-E. Much cheaper and studier than that of OEM Honda cross bars

I was looking for a rack to mount my rooftop tent on my 4Runner without having to spend $xxx or more for a brand name like Yakima or Thule. This thing has been perfect. Easy to install, high enough to easily access tent mount hardware and holding up great so far. If it doesn’t last as long as a name brand, that’s ok with me…I can buy 3 of these for the price of one of those.

Excellent service

I loved it but recently took it down due to noise. If there is a solution please let me know. I will put it back on once a year for hunting.
