Best Truck Tailgate Locks

The unit ties into the auto door lock for the passenger rear door. The control model was “overloaded or a surge” occurred that within the module and the rear door and tailgate lock are not working due to the circuit board line for the door burnt out. To replace the module cost $[XX] by dealer not because of it being hard to get to, it’s plug-n-play, but the key fob must be reprogrammed. All because the aftermarket unit overloaded the factory auto lock circuit of the rear passenger door. Replacement doesn’t guarantee it won’t happen again an warranty is covered.

Pop-lock installed perfectly on my 2019 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition. I routed wire up through left side rear door seal area and then to door piller wiring bundle, instead of through fire wall to fuse box. Took extra care and time in routing and tying wire under vehicle. Used nylon ties provided plus 10 or so more. Rented a lift for 1 hour for ease of wire routing. When hooking up wires in door piller, Install purple wire to small red wire, and green wire to the smaller yellow wire. It was a very easy, and smooth transaction from etrailer. Product was as described in web site, and received lock within 3 or 4 days. Great product. Great seller!

Really easy install by following step-by-step video, took about 20 minutes. Keying the lock to match my ignition key was simple,and so far it's working great. I read a few reviews that said the tailgate has to be in locked position in order to remove key, I did not find that to be the case, my key comes out regardless of whether it's locked or unlocked. Great product, highly recommend.

I had the old pop & lock model for my 2005 Tacoma prior to getting this model. I upgraded to getting this model and it is fantastic! It secures all of my expensive tools and is of good quality. I love it and would highly recommend putting this lock on your tailgate.

Ordered this product on recommendation from a friend and the good reviews was a plus. The kit contained everything for installation and instructions made it simple.I installed it on a Toyota Tacoma that had a bed cover and never had a tailgate lock and worked perfect to keep others from opening the tailgate and see what tools was in there. The kit works with the passenger door lock and very simple to install. A awesome product at a fair, price been working over a year now with no issues.

This is an excellent product, however when I opened the box it was plain to see there was no split loom covering over the supplied wiring harness. etrailer was very apologetic and was willing to send me the split loom or credit me the cost of the covering. ($6) Plus they were available to answer the phone on a Saturday! The installation video posted on this site was very helpful. My particular vehicle is an access cab, so there were a few differences. No need to go beyond the driver side kick board covering to find the correct wires for connection. I also drilled my own hole and used a 1/2" grommet in the bottom of the tail gate for a cleaner install. One tip I would suggest is to find a block of wood equal to the gap between the tailgate and body of the truck for drilling this hole. I noticed on the video the technician did not do this. Very important if you want a clean hole in the metal. Product works as advertised. Not going to lie, I was upset with the lack of split loom covering on the wiring harness. This tailgate handle works fine enough, but the plastic is thin and feels fragile/sharp around the edges, and not like the original factory handle. I wish it felt like a better-quality product.

Super easy 15min I was done and on my way. So happy I made the purchase. Now when I travel I can feel a bit more secure. Purchasing was effortless and Shipping was super fast. I will definitely buy more parts from etrailer.

1. Watch the video before installing! 2. My 2012 F150 Supercrew has the reverse camera and assist step in the tailgate. Installation of the lock assembly was simple and easy. I did use, and recommend a set of mechanical fingers to make wire harness routing through the tailgate much easier. I ran the the finger through the tailgate and out of the hole in the bottom of the gate. Also, if you have the camera harness like I did, routing is much easier if you remove the tailgate from the right hinge only, and move it away from the bed slightly to allow better access to the hole in the bed. I also routed the wire from underneath the bed and then through the tailgate due to the camera wire harness. I installed spiral wrap around the harness in the area of the tailgate to provide additional chaffing protection. I purchased the split sleeve to protect the wire harness routed from this area to the front of the cab. 3. Instead of drilling a hole in the rocker panel box, I found a hole with a rubber plug installed, at the rear of the passenger door rocker panel. I used a 1/4" gasket punch to cut out the center of the plug, routed the wire through the hole, and sealed it with black silicone. The wire went right into the wire tunnel. I routed the wire harness up to the driver door rocker area, and connected into the truck harness there. I did wire my gate lock to unlock with the passenger door, so the wire colors were Grey with a tan stripe for locking, and Purple with a grey stripe for unlock. I secured the harness in the rocker tunnel with nylon cable ties. I have several friends who own F150's with locking tailgates, and they all indicated they would be looking into getting one for their trucks!

So, 2010 Ford Sport trac 4 door Limited, purchased this kit part # PAL8250, live in Canada and shipping was a little long but expected. Installation, was very simple and straight forward, instructions were simple and correct for my vehicle. The only picture I will submit is the lock assembly bolted to the lock arms. I had watched the video and like that video I had to use the farthest opening in the tailgate to slide into position. Running the wires from rear to front of vehicle was straight forward just made sure the wires are clear of any heat source or moving parts. I came through the firewall In the rubber grommet for the hood latch, I used a rod 1/8 “ diameter slightly sharpened with a hole drilled in the end to attach wires and pull through opening. Once inside vehicle I removed drivers kick panel and found the right colored wires, stripped a small opening to expose wires hooked up a tester to ground and hit the unlock button on fob or door closed control, on my vehicle light blue withe green stripe showed power on unlock, grey wire with tan fired lock, I found there were 3 identical looking wires in that loom ( I went through all three to find the right one) not a problem but after looking closely the other wires were not tan stripe, just taped the ones I did not use back up to prevent shorting. I then took the right wires striped back a 1/4 “ WITHOUT CUTTING ANY STRANDS twisted wires to each one and tested worked great so I soldered together each connection retested then taped the loom back up and put back in place along floor pan replaced kick panel. Took my time on this one no hoist so the longest part was running wires and zip striping. As for using soldering, connectors are provided I just prefer not to use them. Start to finish maybe 1 hour. The lock part is well constructed appears to be stainless steel pre formed and fit perfectly, so perfect you have to make sure you have everything lined up before it fits tightly in place, then just bolts in to hold secure with one nut. I would give this a full 5 star review and the piece of mind that the tailgate is locked when the truck is locked is the best part

Lock is weak and can be opened when locked by pulling on tailgate handle! I expected this to be of much better quality!

After a lot of rain the lock appears sticky. I can not get it to lock. Recently however it seems to be working again If the problem does not come back this has been an excellent addition to my truck.

I received the lock today (17th ) so I can’t review it til i bolt it on , but it looks well made

The online video makes installing this lock a breeze. Very straightforward and easy enough for a novice like me. It came with everything needed to make my truck's tailgate latch a power-locking latch. Awesome product!

what can I say, its fine. its a cleaver design, 100% if you are wanting to keep people from taking things from the back of your truck or stealing your tailgate, it might stop or slow even down them down enough to not make it worth it. but I live in a area that gets really cold. and I found that it has frozen up on a few occasions and Being perfectly honest the handle feels like it could break at any moment frozen or not. it just feels like a cheap Chinese aliexpress product. its better having it then not having it. but i was just hoping for more, for what I spent on it.

The lock went on fine, but after a while I noticed it was harder than normal to open. The handle ended up breaking and since my tonneau cover latches from the inside, without being able to open the tailgate I wasn't able to get into the back of my truck at all for several days. I won't disclose how I eventually got the tailgate open because I don't want to reveal how to break into one (for obvious reasons), but after I finally got the tailgate open I discovered the problem. On the tab that actually prevents the handle from being opened when it's locked, the screw was loose and was not moving the tab completely out of the way of the handle allowing it to open properly. So when I reinstalled the lock with a new handle, I used blue Loctite on the screw to keep it from coming loose again. The screw on this lock should have had a lock washer or at least some sort of thread locker to prevent this from happening. Having to replace the tailgate handle because of a loose screw from the factory should have never happened. Not happy.

I got the lock to operate on the removed handle assembly but when putting the assembly back on the vehicle the lock rod hit the metal behind it. I did not install the lock. I didn't contact back because it was months later.

Item looked slightly used with suff marks, the decal "POPLOCK" was partly peeled off and the item was not secured inside the box-it was loose in the box. It also does not fit exactly as it should when installed

i ordered this product to go along with my extang solid fold on my 05 ram 3500. the installation video was very informative! i watched it two or three times while waiting for this to be delivered, and by time it arrived i barely needed the instructions. the main wire that goes from back to front of the truck was barely long enough following the trucks oem harness. i also didnt use the battery tirminals for power, i think that looks cluttered. i used the positive battery post in the power distribution box, and a main ground on the frame right next to it. very clean looking. i feel much better leaving my golf clubs in back during the summer, and transporting hunting equipment and firearms legally through the fall and winter. thanks!

The lock was added for security reasons and was a great addition. The lock was wired to an optional output on our Compu Start alarm so that it is independent of the door lock function. When the alarm is set the tailgate along with the doors automatically lock and are monitored by the alarm, a tilt sensor was installed inside the tailgate for tailgate position.

Still have my tailgate, it's worth it. Get yours. Cheaper then tailgate

I have had my tailgate lock on my 2015 Tacoma for 1 year,and I am so happy with my purchase. I have not had any problems, it's still like brand new. Great product, easily installed, affordable protection. Best of all is the peace of mind it gives me. I recommend it to any truck owner.

This in tailgate add on is awesome!!!. It is my second one and you guys are the only vender in my area that carries it. None, none of the big parts stors carry popnlock, they didn't even know what I was talking about. I went on line ordered it and was a wiz to put in. The lock hasn't frozen on me and I live in Newengland. If your looking to secure your truck bed then this is the lock you need. No drilling or retrofitting un bolt and rebolt your handle back on. This is my 2005 dodge dakota.

All of the necessary components were included and it took about an hour all told to do the installation. I had to remove the factory installed plastic Berliner tailgate protector, and reinstall afterward. Without liner, it would have been easier and quicker. Once adjusted and installed, it works fine.

Purchased this for my 2006 Chevrolet 2500HD truck. I consider myself to be a "jack of all trades, master of none!" I also read all instructions and watch videos, if available, before installation After several hours, I was able to get the unit hooked up...enclosed instructions were just okay. Had issues installing the unit in the tailgate, it's not as easy as it shows in the etrailer video. Getting the handle and unit lined up and the screws in the correct hole was the hardest issue for me. Everything else went well except the wiring hookup described in the instructions were reverse for my truck. With that said, the unit works great and I would purchase again.

This lock is awesome. Makes you feel a little more secure to leave items in the bed of your truck with a bed cover. Installation was a little tricky manipulating the lock and handle. Nothing over the top. Just have little patience. The directions are very well spelled out. Follow the installation directions and you will be fine.

The lock works as you would expect. Installation takes 1-2 hours depending on your skill level and ability to splice into the OEM harness. Instructions are a little vague and could use better pictures. I did have an issue with the mounting holes on my unit, and had to drill them out to fit my application. I think this was a fluke / manufacturing issue. Even with this issue, it was completely installed in 2 hours. I notified etrailer of the issue and they responded within minutes. very prompt service and good product. This unit is, in my opinion, a more secure option than the OEM keylock - and it's automatic. Worth the $.

Easy to install and works well.

Found this item via google and decide to order it. After ordering I also looked [online] and seen it was some what cheaper. But went ahead and kept this order just to keep it for more of a local business. Opened the package and thought wow this is nothing but a piece of plastic. Well I installed it and while taking out the old one it too was all plastic. The only thing the clips that hold to the rods are a little more flimsy than the original. Got it installed and it wouldn’t lock unless I kinda flipped the handle while turning the key. I thought oh no this isn’t going to be good. I got out the old faithful WD-40 and sprayed the moving parts and it works like it should. So far I am pleased with the item. It is just chrome covers plastic but with normal care should last a good long time. Looks good also on my vehicle. ( picture below). I would recommend this item, pay a little more here but it keeps them in business. Deleobert was very fast and packaged well.

The installation went very easy. The instructions were clear and almost perfect. The only thing I found wrong was it said to use a 6mm driver to unscrew to bolts mounting the handle. It is actually a 10mm. The final look is great.

I received the new lock faster than was expecting.The pop&lock was very easy to replace.Just popped out the old lock and popped in the new one .I had to take the handle off and take it inside because it is cold here.No problem very easy to take off. here is pic of the old and the new.

I installed it in about a minute on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. Works great and would recommend this product. There is no way to pull it off once it's locked in, you would have to take the access cover off the tailgate. The only thing you have to do after you install it is to take a flat head screwdriver to pick up the lock a little bit to get the tape off. I would recommend tweezers to peal it off.
