Trailer Hitch Recommendation For 2014 Ford Escape Titanium With No Tow Package
Question:
I am looking to install a towing package on my Escape but I am trying to figure out what my towing capacity would be. The escape as the 2.0 ecoboost engine but does not have a factory installed towing package. Would using a class III receiver still allow me to towing close to that 3500 LBS limit or will it be reduced since there is not a transmission cooler on it? I would be looking to tow something like a single 4 wheeler, or motorcycle at some point.

From the research I did, I found that the towing capacity of your 2014 Ford Escape is 3,500 lbs. That number may be dependent on the engine or drivetrain on your Escape. You will want to check with your dealership to make sure you have that capacity for towing.
For your Escape Titanium I recommend part # e56AR. This is a Class lll trailer hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening.
We also offer a ball mount kit that I recommend. It is part # 989900, and comes with 2 hitch balls, 2 ball mounts, the pin and clip and a handy storage bag. I have attached a link to a product review video for this ball mount kit you can check out.
For trailer wiring I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Wiring, part # 118566. Installation for this harness is simple and will give you a 4-way connector at the rear of your Escape. You can take a look at the installation video I have attached.
When you are working with electrical connectors it is always good to use some dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps moisture and dirt out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
When towing it is always good to consider a transmission cooler. Since transmission coolers are not vehicle specific, you can choose one that will work best for you. I have attached a couple of helpful articles that explain transmission coolers and frequently asked questions about coolers. The most important thing to consider is where the best fit is on your vehicle.
I have attached a drawing that shows the best location for a transmission cooler is between your vehicle's grille and the AC condenser core. I have attached a link to our product page you can check out to see which cooler would work best for you.
