How To Prevent Trailer Theft Beyond Hitch and Coupler Locks
Question:
Met a man whose camper was stolen now THATS low. Got me to thinking. When I trave I use a locking hitch pin and a coupler lock but it would be very simple for a thief to simply remove the ball nut and be gone with my trailer in a flash. Other than welding the nut on what security might be available for a hitched trailer far from home? Thank you.

One easy way to prevent someone from removing the ball would be to use a ball mount that has the ball attached (welded) to the shank. That way you won't have to weld a ball to a shank that isn't meant for that type of modification. Some examples include # C42KR or something adjustable that locks like # DTALBM6600.
A Wheel lock such as # RA-25 would also be a good idea. The trailer would not be able to be moved with a wheel lock like this on it.
And the ball mount/ball may be enough of a deterrent. Considering that a would-be thief would have to loosen a nut that is torqued to several hundred foot pounds using the right sized wrench or socket and a cheater bar, he would probably move on to an easier target.
