Which is Better for 2023 Toyota Tacoma Redarc Tow Pro Liberty or Elite
Question:
I have a 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road and need a trailer brake for it. I drive pavement and some gravel roads that can have some washboards and potholes. Will the redarc tow-pro Liberty work well for that application?

Hey Rob, yes the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED72CR that fits your 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD would work great for you. Normally a proportional brake controller is the absolute best for on-road applications but isn't ideal in off-road conditions but what you mentioned would not be quite off-road enough to require a time-delayed feature like what the # RED42CR that also fits your truck provides.
The reason being that proportional brake controllers get confused by the inertia changes from hitting big bumps which messes with the brake application on the trailer. For just potholes and washboards that's not going to be a problem but you will have to use your best judgment on just how extreme those potholes can be...if they are similar to what you'd experience off-roading then that would be too much for the Liberty and you'd want to go with the Elite.
Worth mentioning is the Elite can do both time-delayed and proportional whereas the Liberty only has proportional.
Let me know which you think is best and if you have more details I can help narrow it down.

Thank you Jameson C. For helping me decide on the beake controller that fits my need. I chose the Redarc elite as I pull the trailer on the pavement but also go off pavement on the roads less traveled with bumps, washboards and potholes.
