Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Subaru Outback

Question:

I have 2017 a Subaru outback 4 cylinder and I am struggling on the best option to use that would allow me to tow a utility trailer 5x10 or 6x10. Ive scanned reviews and QandA sections so learned a bit. After researching, I think I need a 2inch class III hitch and related parts. Looks like its b/w C13410 or 76227. Leaning towards the curt option but any concerns on it not be fastened directly to the frame - saw this noted in a review? Thank you!

Hey Adrian, you are on the right track for a hitch for your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. I would recommend the Curt part # C13410 as it has plenty of towing capacity, is mostly hidden, and the advantage it has over the Draw Tite is that we just have better luck quality wise with the USA made Curt hitches.

While it's attachment method is different than attaching to bottom of the frame it has been thoroughly tested and will be perfectly safe.

Have you picked out trailer wiring yet?

Jameson, thank you very much - most helpful. I will go with your rec. As to your question, I have an idea but if you have time - please weigh in on the rest of the parts that I will need to take on the installation myself including the wiring kit, accessory parts needed to operate with the hitch (tow ball?), and any other things you believe i need to get myself towing. my trailer does not have a brake system, if that helps (90% sure). Thank you

@Abm Glad to help! So for trailer wiring I would go with the Tekonsha kit part # 118467 which is easy to install and has the most reliable converter box available. Then for a ball mount the Draw Tite part # DT49MR is going to put you at the right rise/drop for most trailers and comes with a 2 inch hitch ball which is the most popular size. If you need something different here though just let me know. If your trailer does not have brakes you'd be good as-is. If you do have brakes on your trailer you will need a brake controller install to activate them but it sounds like that is not the case. If you find out differently just let me know and we can get that setup for you as well.
