Comparing the Yakima OnRamp and OnRamp LX Bike Racks
Question:
What are the differences between the Yakima On Ramp part Y96FR and the Y28DJ besides the price?

Great question, Rondi!
The Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR is the first generation while the Yakima OnRamp LX # Y28DJ is the second generation of this rack.
The LX has slightly higher weight ratings (70 lbs per bike on road and 42 off-road), the trays are upgraded to be easier to adjust and hold the tires better, and then the LX has provisions for the License Plate and Tail Light Relocation Kit # Y74VR. I do recommend picking up the Yakima LockUp Hitch Lock and Cable Lock # Y07238 though because then you're able to lock both the rack and your bikes with the same key.
To sum everything up, the OnRamp is the basic version but the OnRamp LX is a little easier to use and can have a light kit added to it in the future. The higher weight rating is pretty negligible.

Thanks for your reply. One of my biggest concerns with the Y96FR is that it might not be able to fold UP when not in use (per the 11:15 minute mark of one of the videos). Do you know if this problem is alleviated with the LX version? I drive a 2016 Toyota Avalon. Thanks, Rondi
