Does The Adarac Truck Bed Ladder Require Front And Back Stake Pockets To Mount

Question:

my 2020 GMS Sierra 1500 High Elevation only has 2 postholes near the tailgate. The front of the bed nearest the cab does not have any holes in the side rail to slide a rack footing/leg into. I looked to see if it has something removable to create a hole and it does not appear so. Does this rack work with a truck like mine or does it strictly require 4 holes in the top rail of the bed? I have a folding soft tonneau cover inside the rail also.

Hey Scott,

The Adarac Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack # A4003493 would require both front and rear stake pockets to install. On 1500 models GM typically doesn't cutout the front stake pocket in the bedrail caps so you should have one. There's usually a mounting point inside the bed with a cover on it right where the stake pocket would sit on the bedrail so you can use that as a guide.

If you really don't have a stake pocket at the cab then you'd need to switch to a ladder rack that clamps to the lip of the bedrails, which would block a tonneau cover or if a cover is needed then you can go with a cover that has accessory slots and a ladder rack that can mount into those slots. Let me know what you find and we can figure out what the next step would be.

Do I need to cut out the cab side bedrail cap myself? I didn't quite follow that part.

@ScottA Yes, the bedrail caps (made of plastic) towards the cab usually have to be cut out unless you have an 8' bed. The pictures above are from my Silverado and the cab side stake pocket has not be cut out of the cap yet.
