What Does A Curt Powered Tail Light Converter Do?
Question:
I bought a used 2020 F-250 truck and found a CURT S0602U-R1 taillight converter wired it, presumably by the previous owner. Would you mind briefly explaining what this is, and what its used for?

No problem, Arlo. The Curt S0602U-R1 is a powered taillight converter, similar to part # C59236. Basically the converter is part of a trailer wiring harness, probably for a 4-flat trailer plug. The converter is wired directly to the vehicles battery. This helps prevent the vehicles electrical system from being overloaded when powering trailer lights. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your vehicles tail light circuits when powering trailer lights.
Also, since most trailers run on a 2-wire system, the converter "converts" the signal which allows for compatibility with vehicles with 3-wire systems. This ensures that the vehicles wiring matches that of the trailer.
I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.
