Recommended Replacement Converter For A Parallax 7300 Series Power Center

Question:

My current power supply is a Parallax 7300 series. It doesnt give an exact model number. The RV is a 30 amp service. What is the correct Progressive Dynamics converter replacement? Steve

Since they didn't list the converter amperage rating on your panel you'll have to just choose the amperage your battery bank requires and then do a bit of investigative work to ensure that the wire gauge used for the converter is enough to handle the load for the new converter. Most of the options I'm seeing for the 7300 series are showing up as a 45 amp converter, which is pretty standard for most trailers.

The Progressive Dynamics Replacement Section for AC/DC Power Distribution Panel - 45 Amp # PD4645V you were looking at could make this an easy swap out, but you'll want to first verify the space you have for the converter in your panel. This one is 13-1/4" long x 8" deep x 5-3/8" wide. You would also want to verify that you have at least 6 gauge wire running from the converter to the battery to handle the load.

If this doesn't fit then you could disconnect the old one and install a new converter like the Progressive Dynamics 9200 Inteli-Power Converter # PD9245C. For this you'd just need to run a dedicated outlet and circuit to power the unit and then connect it to the battery using 6 gauge wire. I typically try to install these pretty close to the battery to make the run shorter so that you won't have to worry about voltage drop.

I believe i am same spot a replacement seems to here. I have a 1982 Parallax 3200 series 45 amp model. But ive changed up the RV a smidge most of the lighting is now AC driven led lighting, soon it will be at 100%. But still do need 12vdc to run the tankless water heater and the overhead vent fans. The wiring in the RV is quite good and set up to handle a Onan 6500 genset 55 amps i believe. I would just go to the model you have suggested but i will ask is there a model or product that will boost my AC power distribution and still give me some 12vdc. Adding a solar power might very well happen at somepoint but im just not there yet. Far to might speed bumps restoring the old HR.

@Greg The Progressive Dynamics # PD4045KA would be a great way to organize all of your electrical in one place. It has space for 6 circuit breakers when using twin circuit breakers so it should give you more space to run other appliances. It also houses the DC distribution panel with 12 fuse ports for your vent fans, water heater, and any other 12v appliances. The # PD4045KA requires a 10-3/4" long x 7-1/4" tall cutout to mount so you might have to make alterations to your current power center's cutout to get it to fit. A solar panel system can be added but would need to be wired directly to the battery and would not tie into the power center. If you want to add solar we'll need to know the wattage draw per hour for each appliance you plan on running and an estimate for how many hours you think they'd run for. If you can get me that info I can see what size system would help replenish the battery. If you have any other questions just let me know and I'd be happy to help.

@KevinC I have understated my needs i believe let me try to clarify the picture a bit i am a terrible writer. 1. Current converter Parallax 3200 series 45 amp. 2 RV 82 Holiday Rambler 3. Onan genset 6.5 develops continuous power 50 amps and 6500 watts 4. This unit has two wiring systems one main system that powers the rear air and all ac outlets aside from the galley kitchen wall which the microwave and the front air conditioner 5. 1 AC fuse box 6. 1 DC fuse box located on the wall one fuse box located in the Parallax converter. 7 The AC wiring is all 10/2 thru out the RV 8. Two wall light switches that allow you two switch from either power supply How this all work is very basic is one wants to run the entire RV at one time you simply start the genset set plug the shorepower cord into the genset and the entire RV is energized. Meaning both the kitchen wall micro wave front air conditioner now work as one with the rear air and all the circuits. What i have done was splicing 4 additional AC lines for overhead lighting using junction boxes, very minimal draw there. What do i think i need? a power source converter/inverter that will supply adequate AC power for the Air conditioners the lights the refrigerator. My son is a Electrical engineer he will wire the power supply in or someone on his staff, the system will meet all codes that is not a issue just a adequate power supply converter. Oddly there is very little need for DC power other than the vent fans and tankless waterheater. As mentioned above the day for a solar system array will be coming from my understanding a LifePo4 batterys will most likely be used as a power source, 3 100ah batteries maybe 4 who knows at this point.

@Gregory So you have 50 amp service to RV either from the generator or shore power and need a power center like the # PD4560K18LS8 instead. This has two power legs giving you space for 10 circuit breakers when using tandem circuit breakers. This would also house the DC distribution panel and give you 18 fuse ports, which I know isn't needed in your case but there isn't a version with less. This power center does have a higher amperage converter charger (60amps) so you'll need to run thicker gauge wire (6AWG) to the battery to handle the increased amperage. This doesn't have an inverter in it but an inverter can be tied into it depending on how it operates. Do you already have an inverter or are you still looking?
