Troubleshooting An Everchill RV Refrigerator That Wont Get Cold

Question:

I have an Ever Chill WD-282FWDC 12v refrigerator in my 2020 Forest River Wildwood 28DBUD camper trailer. It does not get cold. The fans are running and the light on. It will not go into stand bye mode by holding the set button for ten seconds. It just appears to be stuck in diagnostic mode cycling through the lights. What might cause this? Thank you

There could be a number of causes as to why your Everchill RV Refrigerator w/ Freezer # 324-000119 is malfunctioning. I would start by removing the fuse to fully cut the power and waiting a few minutes for the unit to fully reset.

If resetting the unit is doesn't solve the issue then the first thing I would check is the power with a multimeter # PT89ZR to see if it's getting a full 12 volts. If not then you'll need to trace it back to the power source. The next thing to check is the ground connection. We've found that if you don't run the ground directly to the frame of the trailer you're opening yourself up for errors. If your ground is currently running into the main panel then I recommend moving it to the trailer frame.

If all of that is good then the next thing you need to do is clean out the drain line that's located in the bottom of the unit on the back. If you remove the wire cover you'll see a line running straight down into a drain pan.

If that doesn't solve the issue then there may be an internal issue with the control board and would require replacement. This is something that you'll have to go through Everchill to do though.

Hello, I have a Eche refrigerator freezer. The model number is WD – 282FWDC – 6 And I can’t get it to get cold in The freezer or the refrigerator part the camper was parked and not plugged in, so I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions?

@Janice Are you reading any power at the back of the fridge? If your trailer wasn't plugged in you could've drained the battery enough that the fridge isn't getting the voltage it needs to properly operate.

What if the freezer is working but the refrigerator will not cool? The light is flashing on 5. I have removed the fuse several times to try to reset, but it will not reset.

@RonnieW You likely have an issue with the control board and would need to reach out to Everchill. The error codes for this fridge should show up as letters. A ''5'' showing up on the display would indicate that the fridge is receiving greater than 13 volts DC power. You can check this with a multimeter # PT89ZR to see if that's the case but it's likely just a malfunctioning board.

I took the cover off inside of the freezer to find that everything was frozen solid. I used a hair dryer to defrost and dumped the drain pan twice. The passage between the refrigerator and freezer was completely blocked with ice. This did not fix my light blinking on number 5. I believe the control panel is malfunctioning. The freezer and refrigerator are cold now regardless, but I think it will probably freeze up again. I hope this helps someone.

@OnlyW I have the same issue where after some time, it gets frozen and cold air no longer goes to the refrigerator. Just got back from a trip and milk was coagulated, mold on cheese and fruits. I have mine set to see and it's always blinking and there are times where 3 and 4 are blinking together. Wish I knew how to fix this.

@Jason Aside from ensuring the drain line is clear and not clogged up with any dust or ice you would want to reach out to Everchill and have them replace the control panel.

@William Is the fridge turning on and not cooling or are you just getting nothing out of it? I would start by checking that the fridge is receiving enough voltage to operate. With it being a new trailer you shouldn't have any build up in the drain line so I'd say it's an internal issue that would need to be warrantied out by Everchill if power isn't the issue.

@LeeH Where did you get a thermal fuse for your Everchill. I have the same problem. Freezer and refrigerator work until freezer ices up and blocks the cold air from moving to the refrigerator. Everchill model is WD-282FWDC.

Hello My 12 V Everchill Fridge/ freezer has stopped holding the proper temp. We have de iced it underneath and I was just wondering if you know where the drain line usually goes?

@LizzieP On the back of the fridge there's typically a wire racking at the base that you can remove to see the drain hose point down into a little drain pan.

@KevinC I have a 2017 puma with the everchill Fridge it has been plugged in and working fine for 3 months and we had to take a trip without it and we got back home yesterday and the freezer wasn’t cold there has been no heat on and it’s been cold here could that have something to do with it? I have the heat on now and the fridge is off

@Jeffery If the temperature is low enough it can trick the fridge into thinking it's too cold and shut off or send itself into defrost mode. Any condensation in the drain line could've also froze and clogged the line, choking the fridge up and not allowing it to cool. I'd warm up the camper and let the fridge sit with the power off and doors open for at least a day to let any frozen condensation thaw and leak out. You will want to throw some towels down to catch any leaking water. Let me know if that solves the issue and if not we can keep troubleshooting.
