What Weight Capacity Leaf Springs Should Be Used On a Aluminum Snowmobile Trailer With 1,000LBS?
Question:
I have a 2 place snowmobile trailer that I just replaced the axle on to a 2700lb axle. Looking at thing, I may as well replace the springs as well. What lb springs should I be buying? 1,000lb springs? Total weight of the snowmobiles will be about 1,000lb. It is a 8×10ft aluminum trailer.

You will most likely need to use a 1,000LB spring like either the Double-Eye Spring 26" # e77SR or 20-3/8" # e53SR. It is important to match the springs as close as possible to the weight of the trailer and the cargo without exceeding the weight rating for your trailer. While increasing axle weight capacity will not risk damage to the trailer you can damage the trailer by getting to light or to heavy of leaf springs. If you choose springs lighter than the trailer you will compress the springs and risk parts like the axle or wheels and tires hitting the trailer. By using heavier springs this will create a stiff ride causing the trailer to bounce more and creating more stress on the chassis.
