Troubleshooting E5 Error on Atwood Air Command Rooftop RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump

Question:

I have a E5 error on the thermostat. I have tried to reset it by turning the power off on the thermostat and turning the breaker off. When I turn the breaker back off with the ac thermostat off the unit runs without the thermostat ever being turned on.

It sounds like you are getting the "E5" error code when you are trying to use the cooling mode of your Atwood Air Command Rooftop RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump # AT15028-22. If this is the case, then it is indicating that the outside coil is too hot.

If it is happening while trying to use the heat pump, it is indicating that the inside coil is too hot.

If this is taking place during cooling then it is usually an indicator that the condenser air flow is severely reduced or non-existent. You will want to check the outside coil temperature (I have included a picture that shows how to do this) and make sure the fans are running.

I have included a couple pictures from the owners manual that goes over the troubleshooting steps for the "E5" error.
