What is the Gross Combined Weight Rating for a 2013 Ford Escape

Question:

RE: Ford Escape 2013, the model that will tow 3500 lbs. Hi, We would like to purchase the above vehicle but are confused if this vehicle will do the job. We have a star craft tent trailer, model 2102. The dry weight of the trailer is 1940 lbs / 880 kg. GVWR of the trailer is 2820 lbs / 1279.2 kgs It also has a 20 gallon water tank that we never use, therefore there is a little less weight. Will this vehicle above tow this trailer we would also like to go through the Rocky Mountains. What about the weight if the car itself, meaning four passengers and luggage? We would truly appreciate any help you can give us. We are not trusting the dealership, they seem confused.

If you choose a 2013 Ford Escape that has the factory tow package and has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds then it can handle the light tent trailer without issue. What you will want to look at is the gross combined weight rating. This rating is the most the vehicle and trailer can be including passengers, fuel, and luggage.

Ford did not put this specific information in the owners manual that I found online, only how to find it on the vehicle. If you look in the drivers side door jamb where the tire pressure information is, it should also list GCWR and/or other information that will help determine how much the trailer and vehicle can be.

I did find the 2013 Ford towing guide that shows the GCWR for models with the 2.0 liter I4 EcoBoost motor and 3.07 final drive ratio to be 7,477 pounds for the front wheel drive models and 7,626 pounds for 4-wheel drive models.
