Flat Tow Wiring for a 2001 Chevy Tracker
Question:
Hi, My 2001 Chevy Tracker has the tow vehicle option with a plug in the left rear quarter. Is there a wire harness that you carry that will go from my six-pole plug on the rear of the RV to the plug in the back of the Tracker? Also, would that harness have a 12volt line to run from the coach to the trackers battery to keep it trickle charged? Am I better off replacing the existing six pole RV trailer plug with the more popular 7-pole plug? Thank you

The wiring used for flat towing a vehicle is different than what you would use to tow a trailer with your 2001 Chevy Tracker so while I can definitely help you out with wiring, it will need to be a splice-in application instead of using the plug that you found. To match what you're wanting to do we have a few options. I like the idea of swapping the 6-Way on your RV over to a 7-Way simply because the 7-Way is a little more standard but it's up to you.
For 7-Way RV connection you'll need the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 and then a replacement 7-Way connector like the Pollak # PK12-707E which you would mount to your RV using the Bracket # PK12711U.
If you want to keep the 6-Way on your RV then you need the Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 and the Flexo-Coil Cord Kit # RM-1466.
To keep a trickle charge on your Tracker you just need to add the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to your vehicle and make sure your RV has the 12V pin active. You'll just route this wiring from the center pin on the vehicle-side 6-Way to your battery.
For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
