Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with 6.0 Towing a 5th Wheel
Question:
I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L gasoline engine I am using it to pull a 5th wheel trailer that weighs a little over 10,000 pounds. I have my BullyDog tuner set to alarm at 230 degrees on the transmission temp. It normally runs less than 200 degrees. I get the alarm mainly when pulling a long hill, so I think I need to add an additional cooler. Which one do you recommend?

Expert Reply:
Given the weight of your trailer and the fact that you tow uphill I recommend going with the largest cooler or most efficient that will fit in the available space you have in the engine compartment of your 2004 Silverado. A stacked plate cooler is going to be the most efficient.
For a stacked plate that is very efficient and rated as a Class V I recommend # D13403. It measures 13 inches wide, 7-5/16 inches tall, and 2 inches deep. I also recommend fitting # D13035 so you do not have to cut and flare lines. I have included a link to our transmission cooler FAQ for you.
