Maximum Tongue Weight For a 2021 Mazda CX 5 Carbon Turbo AWD With EcoHitch Receiver Installed

Question:

Thanks for the answer, 300 pound maximum tongue weight is plenty for me. Actually the hitch I plan to buy is etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" Item # e98902. I assume your answer would be the same for this one?

The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH68VR rating of 600lbs maximum tongue weight is the maximum weight the receiver is capable to support. It will not increase the factory rating for your 2021 Mazda CX-5. According to your owners manual the maximum towing capacity is 2,000lbs and the maximum tongue weight allowed is 10-15% of your CX-5 Carbon Turbo AWD. This gives you a maximum tongue weight of 300lbs per the manual.

This receiver having a 2" opening will allow for you to use a much wider arrange of ball mounts, bike racks, and cargo carriers than the 1-1/4" receiver restricts you to.

The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118746 will plug into your factory connections on your tail lights so that you do not need to do any splicing of the tail light wires. This will give you a 4-way flat connector that is needed for most small trailer as well as Auxiliary Lights # C53201 that you may need for a bike rack or cargo carrier.

Yes, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98902 with tongue weight rating of 600lbs will have the same weight rating since the CX-5 maximum is 300lbs and that is the lower of the two. I have also linked an installation video we have for this receiver on a 2021 CX-5.
