Is There an Option for a 12 Wheel With 5 on 4.75 Bolt Pattern?

Question:

I bought a 5x8 Wingman trailer for an ATV. The tires it came with have a speed rating of 68mph. Most of the driving I will be doing is in 75mph zones and I would like to be able to tow at 70mph. I would like to upgrade my tires to some that are rated for 81mph but I cant seem to find any that fit. Using your instructions to measure bolt pattern, I am confident that these are 5 on 4.75. I have not been able to find 12inch 5 on 4.75 on your site, or anywhere else, let alone any that are rated at 81mph. Do these exist?

The 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern is starting to get less and less common, so they are getting a little difficult to find. With that being said, this bolt pattern was generally not used on wheels of this size in the trailer world.

If you take a look at the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-3/4 # 845475UC1, it will only fit wheels from 13 inches to 15 inches in diameter. This has to do with how a hub will sit inside a wheel and, unfortunately, 12 inch wheels do not have the needed space to accommodate hubs with the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt patterns.

I can suggest swapping your wheels to a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern, but this will require replacing your hubs as well. I listed a few options to do this below.

The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles # 84545UC1-EZ will use the more common 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern, but you will need to make sure the # L68149 inner bearing and # L44649 outer bearing match what you currently have.

If the bearings match, the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM31199DX will mate to the # 84545UC1-EZ very nicely and is rated up to 81 mph..
