Can 14 Wheel And Tire Be Used As Spare For 15 Wheel And Tire On Trailer?

Question:

Can I use a 14 inch Wheel/tire for an emergency short term spare on a tandem trailer with 15 inch wheel/tires?

A 14" wheel and tire could be used as a very short term fix to get the trailer off the side of the road, but it is not good to have tires that are a different height on the trailer. Doing so will cause excess weight on the side with the shorter tire and would cause handling and suspension wear issues.

I recommend carrying a spare that is the exact size as the tires on your trailer.

For example if your 15" wheels and tires are a 205/75R15 I recommend using the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM32418DX.

If you have a different size tire just let me know and I would be happy to make a recommendation.

I included a video of the # AM32418DX for you to take a look at.

@Leonie Cars typically have wheels with offset (the part that touches the hub is not perfectly in the center of the wheel) as a car wheel needs to avoid suspension and the body, where a trailer wheel is zero offset typically due to it being stronger for weight carrying. For a 15" 5 on 5" bolt patter wheel check out # AM20428. Though I'd recommend double checking your bolt pattern because 5 on 5" is uncommon compared to the super common 5 on 4-1/2".
