How To Transport A 50cc Scooter Moped On The Back Of Your Vehicle
Question:
Hi. I have a 1 1/4 hitch on my Hyundai Santa Fe. Im looking for a rack to transport my 50 cc scooter. It weighs about 200 lbs. Can you recommend one? Thanks,

The best carrier to transport your 50cc scooter is the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier for 2" Hitches # UF48-979033. It has adjustable wheel mounts that allow bikes or motorcycles with small tires to be mounted without an issue. There are built-in tie down points for straps; I recommend adding Erickson Motorcycle and ATV Tie-Downs w Soft Ties and TCS Buckles - 1"x6' - 400 lbs - Qty 2 # EM05729 to secure the bike to the carrier.
Since your Santa Fe has a 1-1/4" hitch you will need to use Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HTAD which will allow fitment of the Ultra-Fab carrier. Keep in mind this hitch adapter will reduce your hitch receiver's overall capacity by 50%. This means that if your trailer hitch receiver has a 300lb tongue weight rating, which is common for 1-1/4" receivers, then this will likely not work for you since you will be over the 50% limit. To get around this issue you will need to install a 2" trailer hitch receiver then you will not need the adapter, thus giving you the capacity for the 50lb bike rack and 200lb bike. If you provide me with your vehicle's year then I will find a 2' receiver that will work for you.
I attached demonstration videos for these products.
