Can I Install a 7 way With a Charge Line on my 2020 Tesla Model Y
Question:
I’m considering adding the trailer hitch to my Tesla model Y. My trailer has a 7pin connector. No brakes but auxiliary power to charge the trailer battery. Can I use a 7 pin connector on the Tesla and draw power from the Tesla for charging my trailer battery as I do with my Subaru Outback. Tks

Yes. You can make connections to the battery on your 2020 Tesla Model Y in the same manner that you would on a standard, non-EV. You will need to start with a 4 way like the Tekonsha ZCI Kit # 119250KIT which offers you a solution that doesn't require any splicing into the wires on the Tesla; the ZCI (Zero Contact Interface) allows you to simply clamp on to the wiring to receive the signal. Once you've got that installed you can add a 7 way with the # ETBC7L kit, which will give you what you need to tow your trailer with a 7 way. You'll have a charge line on your 7 way by connecting the yellow wire on the # ETBC7L, which controls the 12v auxiliary power source.
For the trailer hitch, the EcoHitch # EH39FR is the only available hitch for the 2020 Model Y, but it's a great one. I really like how it gives you a completely hidden behind the knockout panel under the vehicle, so nobody will ever know it's there until you're towing.
I've linked some review and installation videos of these parts for you to check out, but this would allow you to tow your trailer with your new Model Y.
