Installation Instructions for Curt Friction Bar Style Sway Control 17200

I recently purchased a curt 17200 and I dont understand the position of the spacer plate and the ball plate on top.

The spacer plate and ball plate on the Curt friction sway control # 17200 need to be mounted to the side of the trailer frame at a specific measurement so the unit can work properly. If you measure from the center of the cavity in the coupler where the hitch ball would go back along the frame rail 24 inches, that is where the center of the ball on the spacer plate will need to be.
The images in the instructions show a lot of top-down views to give you a better look at how the measurement is taken. I have linked the instructions for you to view. The spacer plate sets the ball plate out a little further from the frame to avoid contact with the trailer frame.
