2019 Ram 2500 Pin Weight Capacity and Fifth Wheel Recommendation

Question:

I have a 2019 ram 2500 crew cab short bed 6.7 Cummins. I am so confused about how much hitch weight I can have. Can you clear this up for me?

I was able to find some information for you. On your 2019 Ram 2500 CC SB with the 6.7 cummins you will have a payload capacity of right at 2500 lbs. Payload can be used as the maximum allowable pin weight.

With that said the M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs part # RP30928 that you looked at would be a perfect fit for your trucks payload. It offers a max 5000 lb pin weight and will work with trailers up to 20,000 lbs.

If you don't already have fifth wheel rails use Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50054-58 this will provide you with the connection point needed to set your fifth wheel into.

IF your Ram has the OEM puck system in it you will use Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package - 25,000 lbs part # RP30154 to give you that connection point.

Does the hitch add to the capacity to the pin weight. Also would adding air bags help increase weight?

@TroyW Anything in the bed from the rear axle back is going to count towards your pin weight, so this would include the 5th wheel hitch. Adding in air springs will not increase the capacity of the truck but would help you level the truck back out while hauling. This will help with braking power, overall handling, and keep your head lights pointed down at the ground instead of up at the car in front of you. If you're interested in adding some air springs to your truck I'd need to know the year/make/model of the and if it's 2WD or 4WD.
