2-to-3 Wire Tail Light Converter for New LED Trailer Lights
Question:
As I understand this converter changes vehicle red Amber to red brake turn. My truck is 2013 Nissan Frontier and already has adapter to 7 pin RV socket. Can this converter be reversed at rear to make my new LED trailer lights work? If not is there another way? My trailer is home built tandem with 4 wheel brakes. The lights currently used are dual filament bulbs and all works perfectly. I am upgrading the lighting on the rear and adding new LED Stop, Tail, Turn and Backup assemblies. There are 5 wires on each: Ground,Tail, Brake, Backup and Amber Turn. If I connect Amber and Brake together on current Brake / Turn wire both light up when signaling or braking.

The Hopkins Tail Light Converter # HM48847 combines the signals from your truck to pass them to your towed trailer; however this won't work in reverse if you were to install this on your trailer. Since you're looking to add functionality of new lights on your trailer, which is wired as a 2 wire system, you'll want to use the Curt 2-to-3 Wire Tail Light Converter # C56196. This converter will convert the 2 wire signal from your trailer's 7 way connector into a 3 wire setup that will allow you to use your new light and is compatible with LED lights.
To install this converter, you'll wire it in behind the 7 way connector on your trailer and then connect the new wiring to your new lights.
