Troubleshooting 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter Issues for 2018 Ram 3500
Question:
just purchased a Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter install went fine as did the hid-a-goose for my 2018 ram 3500, already had a anderson ultimate hitch with rails, and replaced it with above product, my question is the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter has no seatinch for the 2 5/8 ball it just has a hollow cast iron tube with no ride surface to speak of except that the top of the ball just wears on the flat surface at the top of the locking ring section, also there is approximately 1/2 inch of slop up and down on said lower locking section. Is there a missing piece? the anderson receiver red pieceinch has a nylon wear socket for the ball and tows wonderful, even when the trailer upthrusts from bumps this adapter if it has no such wear socket probably wont work, as it will grind the top of the hid-a-goose ball making it useless or worse jam it in the bed please advise brad snethen 503 449 0294

You are correct to have concern here because the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G is not recommended for use with the Hide-A-Goose on Ram models from 2013-present. This is because the gooseneck hitch ball that has a plastic handle on top that folds into the hitch ball and the Convert-A-Ball has a nut on the inside that will damage the plastic handle.
An alternative that would work that I recommend is the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100. You need to be sure that your measurement from the bottom of the king-pin plate to top of the hitch ball when your truck and trailer are level is between 11-3/4" to 14-3/4". I have attached a video review to provide some additional information from here.
