Is 130 - 160 Degrees too Cool for Transmission Fluid Temperatures
Question:
I installed a plate and fin trans cooler,and a external trans oil filter,where the temp sending unit is located, and by-passed the rad cooler, as this kept the fluid around 180 degrees.driving home last night ...outside air was 60 the trans temp ranged changed more then I would of thought between 130 and 160-170 with most level driving at 70mph at 130. Is this to cool for the trans? also guage not working yet i set in stop and go traffic for 2 hours on the way up...would this have over heated the new fluid? 2003 Buick Century 4t65e trans used for just driving not towing. car has electric fans that work around on 190 off 160,trans cooler in front of fans and rad and ac cond. Any thoughts would be helpful as I am just trying the make a car to cruise from dirt track to dirt track on the weekends. car also has a plate and fin engine oil cooler no temp gauge yet

The cooler you can keep transmission fluid the better basically. 130-160 degrees is actually really awesome as this means your transmission is going to last a very long time. Honestly 180 isn't bad either but 130-160 is better if anything.
I am slightly confused by the second portion of your question though as you said the gauge is not working but previously had stated that the gauge was reading temperatures.
