Comparing Curt Class III Hitches C13395 & C13171 for 2019 Jeep Cherokee Towing Tear Trailer
Question:
You guys have two different Curt 2-inch hitches for my 2019 Cherokee, models C13171 and C13395. What is the difference, other than the weight ratings and prices? We'll be pulling a small tear trailer with brakes. What all do we need? Jeep has no wiring.

The two Curt Class III hitches made for your 2019 Cherokee, parts # C13395 and # C13171, differ primarily in their installed appearance.
Hitch # C13171 will install such that its main cross tube is visible under the bumper cover while model # C13395 has a concealed cross tube that is more hidden. If you refer to the two linked photos you can see the difference; the blue vehicle has visible hitch # C13171 and the red one has the concealed hitch # C13395.
The difference in weight ratings results from the two different hitch designs. The cross tube on hitch # C13171 is straight with no bends and this is what gives it its higher weight ratings of 750-lbs tongue weight and 5000-lbs towing weight. The angled cross tube of hitch # C13395 means it will handle slightly less weight.
The two hitches will install similarly and one is not a lot tougher to put on than the other. Between them I recommend # C13171 because of its higher weight rating and lower price. An installation video and the written instructions are linked for you so you can see the process and tools you'll need to bolt it on.
To tow your teardrop that has brakes If you will also need a wiring harness item # C56406 and a ball mount kit item # C45534. Next you'll use our Brake Controller Installation kit # ETBC7 to both wire the brake controller and also to convert the 4-pole wiring harness to the 7-way type on your trailer. A helpful video for this kit is linked too.
The brake controller I recommend is the Prodigy P3 # 90195. This brake controller is reliable, easy to set up and simple to operate. It includes features not found on other controllers, such as a nice clear display and memory that lets you store specific brake power settings.
Towing mirrors like # KS3891-2 are recommend to give you a wider field of view behind you so you can better see both the trailer and other motorists.
