According to the owner's manual for your 2012 Toyota Prius V, "Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer with your vehicle. Toyota also does not recommend the installation of a tow hitch or the use of a tow hitch carrier for a wheelchair, scooter, bicycle, etc. Your vehicle is not designed for trailer towing or for the use of tow hitch mounted carriers."
If you choose to do so anyway you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For this, I recommend using the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7192, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118610, and the Curt Fusion Ball Mount part # C45155 if the trailer has a 2" coupler.
