Converting Separate Turn Signals and Brake Lights to Combined Turn and Brake Lights on a Trailer
Question:
So, I have these lights on my pull behind motorcycle trailer. I am running a 6 wire round plug. The motorcycle has seperate directionals from the stop lamps. If I tie both of those wires into one wire of that lamp and the other wire to tail lamp, what happens when I step on brake while directional is on the directional will stop flashing. Now I can and will install amber lamps in the back as soon as I can find the ones I want but is there a way I can get the directionals to continue to flash with brakes on? I am also looking for 4 round surface mount amber lamp for directionals, any suggestions? All the lights before where incandesant and they had 3 or so, stud mounted amber lights installed.

If the trailer is one that is pulled by a motorcycle or a trailer designed to carry a motorcycle, you will need a converter in order to convert the wiring system used by the 6-Way to a 2 wire system used by trailer lights. The converter you can use is # RM-732. This takes the separate turn and brake signals and makes them a combined circuit. When you hit the brakes with the turn signal on, it should blink on one side and the other side will remain a solid brake light.
The converter will need to be installed after the the connector on the trailer side. When you are ready to use separate turn signals you will need to remove the converter to allow the turn signals and brake lights to be separate again.
One amber LED light that may work for you when you are ready to use separate turn signals is # STL43ABX. This is a surface mount LED amber light. It has an overall diameter of 5-3/4 inches. The light part measures 4-7/8 inches diameter. You would also need a pigtail, # A45PB or # A47PB.
Another option is # STL42AB. The light part is 4 inches and the overall diameter is 5-1/2 inches.
