Will the Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898 Install on Yakima Round Bars

Question:

Hi- Im looking to get the Thule Hullavator Pro 898s for my Kayak. My question is will the Thule Hullavator Pro 898 work with Yakima round bars? I understand about the needed 4-8 inches of overhang of the bars themselves. I assume I can attach the hullavators using the bottom bracket that they come with to the bars and then going an extra step by drilling a pilot hole in my yakima bars and secure the Hullavators bar mount assembly to the round bars with stainless sheet metal screws to keep the hullavators from turning on the round bars. Can you Please advise ASAP? Thank you,

The Hullavator Pro # TH898 will work just fine with Yakima round bars and will not require any additional hardware like what you mentioned. The only step that you will skip in the instructions is installing the special angled end cap (page 5) but my contact at Thule said it will still work great with the Yakima round bars even without that end cap.

Just be sure you have that additional 4" - 8" of space on your round bars and you are good to start your install!

I just attempted to install the Thule Hullavator mounting bar on my Yakima round bars. The carriage bolts that came with the Hullavator were too short so I bought longer ones, however when I tightened them it pulled the mounting bar so tight against the round bar that I could not remove the silver pin used to connect the Hullavator to the mounting bar. Please advise.

@JoeR Do you have the end of the Hullavator extended past the end of your crossbars?

@JonG I discovered the pivot pin must be extended past the end of the crossbars, as you said. That solved the problem. The paper instructions said to make both bar ends flush with each other but that was only for crossbars with a tapered end cap.

@JoeR Glad you were able to get it figured out! Happy kayaking!
