Recommended Camera System For Pre-Wired Forest River Trailers

Question:

Looking for the back up camera that is meant to go with the pre installed equipment/system for the optional backup camera that goes on the 2018 Forest River 197BH

For your 2018 Forest River 197BH, I recommend the Furrion RV Observation Camera System w/ Monitor and Bracket # FOS43TASF. This camera is prewired in your trailer to function when you shift into reverse. It can be rewired to work anytime the running lights are on if you change the power wire location in your trailer to the running light circuit so you will have a constant view.

What camera system is recommended for my prewired Sandpiper 38FKOK?

Like the Forest River trailer mentioned above, your Sandpiper is pre-wired for a Furrion camera system. The 4.3" Vision S System # FOS43TASF that Jason recommended is a great option that will hook right up to that pre-wired bracket, but I personally prefer the larger 7" screen that the Vision S # FOS07TASF provides.

@ChrisR Hey, do you know where I can hook the power up for that prewire to be constant so I don't have to rely on the brakes/reverse to operate my camera?

@Ryan You can definitely do this but you won't be able to utilize the pre-wired bracket. You just need to hardwire the camera's power wire to a constant power source - or at least one that's easy to keep on. A popular circuit is the running lights wire behind the tail light.

4 out of the last 5 cameras I tried to install, never were wired from factory. Wildwood X-Lites Maybe the guy in charge of that should look into what a Pre-Wired install actually looks like. I cant even tell customers its pre- wired and they can plug and play. Its a guaranteed extra charge now to install. Dont advertise it as such.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you saying that the Wildwood X-Lites in particular aren't fully pre-wired (or wired incorrectly) for a backup/observation camera system? Are you able to provide any more insight as to how they are wired up? This type of info is really valuable to our community so any details you can give would be extremely helpful!

got my 2021, suppose to be prewired. Didnt work, had to pop the mount, found wiring disconnected. Seems factory needs to QA test connections before installing cover.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would definitely let the dealer you purchased the trailer from know this.

When you mean that the it will not work do you mean that it isn't powering up or that the signal doesn't reach the monitor? If it isn't getting power then you'll want to check around to see if there is a way for you to activate the power like turning on the headlights with your tow vehicle.

You might need to connect the wiring from your trailer up to your tow vehicle and turn your headlights on to power up the camera.
