Will a Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Help to Prevent Sway While Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Ok, thank you for your response. My truck is a 2002 Ford F-350 4x4, Automatic, 7.3L Diesel with an 8ft bed. I also added a set of Air Bags - Unlimited Heavy Duty. When Towing I adjust the Air Bags to haul a level Truck and Trailer. After we bought our 5th wheel we noticed that I can only Tow at 60 mph comfortable. The truck has single axle, with 3.73 Differential Gears. Now I am thinking of adding a F-450 Dually for better stability or out Wider 10ply tires on the truck. I am currently running 265/70R/17. Also add the Sway bar. Do you have any suggestions for me! Thank you.

Installing an anti-sway bar like the Roadmaster # RM-1139-160 for 2002 Ford F-350 and F-450 Cab and Chassis will help to reduce the sway that you are experiencing while pulling your 5th wheel trailer, but they will not completely prevent it. An anti-sway bar helps to fight the effects of crosswinds, passing motorists, and shifting cargo.

If you let me know the specific year/make/model of your tow vehicle I can make a recommendation for you.

Another thing that will help to reduce sway while pulling your 5th wheel would be to ensure that the trailer is level and is loaded properly.

Since you have a 2002 Ford F-350 the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-160 is what you will want to go with as it is compatible with your air bags. Reducing your speed, using your air bags, and utilizing an anti-sway bar should make your F-350 pretty solid so I don't think it is really necessary to change out anything else on your truck. Because your trailer is the part of your towing setup causing most of the sway it would be more effective to upgrade your trailer suspension instead. You can upgrade your suspension by changing out your equalizers and using an E-Z Flex or Equa-Flex suspension enhancement system. I have attached a link to our selection of equalizers that you can filter through. You will just want to choose how many axles you have and then an equalizer that matches the length and weight capacity of your current suspension system.
