Brake Controller Wiring for Ford E-450 Motorhome
Question:
Good Morning: I have a new Ford E-450 Motor Home and want to install a brake control unit for pulling a trailer. Can you help me if it has a cable installed in the dash somewhere that I can hoop up a brake controller to?

If your vehicle has a factory brake controller plug, you can simply use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers – Ford, Item # 3034-P, which will connect to the vehicle plug and the brake controller. On the new E-450 vehicles, the plug is located behind the storage compartment above the radio. Once you remove the storage compartment, you can plug in the adapter and run the cord behind your dash to the brake controller. I've attached several images showing where the plug is located on a new Ford E-450 vehicle. If the plug is not located here, another possible location is behind the lower part of the dash on the driver's side by your knees.
If you do not have a factory connector plug in your vehicle, you will have to hardwire the brake controller from scratch. If you already have a factory 7-way and 4-way, you can use the Wiring Kit, Item # 5506, to connect your brake controller.
If you do not have a factory 7-way connector, you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, Item # ETBC7. I've attached an article on wiring your brake control from scratch.
If you need a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This proportional brake controller will automatically adjust your brakes based on the deceleration of your tow vehicle. The P2 is very popular with our customers and installers due to its easy installation and operation.
I've attached several video reviews for your convenience.
