Trailer Lights Not Working After Launching Boat Trailer Into Water

Question:

I had the entire lights redone on my trailer. They worked well one time. I took it to the lake and pulled back to far and got water on the connection. After that my running lights work but my blinkers and brake lights do not work. Any ideas on what is wrong?

It sounds to me like you may have shorted out a wire somewhere along on the trailer's wiring harness. To test this, I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Have a friend sit in the vehicle and apply the brakes and turn signals while you test the wires just before the taillights. If power is reaching the taillight but still not working, you will first want to ensure the connections at the back of the taillights are secure and corrosion free. If no problems are present, you may want to replace your taillights with a pair of submersible lights like the LED Trailer Light Kit part # TLL160RK.

If power is not reaching the taillight, you will first want to begin visually inspecting the wires from the back of the taillight housing all the way to the trailer connector plug. You can use the circuit tester while testing intermittent points on the wires to give you a better idea where the short is located. If worse comes to worst, you will want to run new wires to each taillight using the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector part # H20046 for 7-way trailer connectors and the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector w/ Jacketed Cable part # W787274 for 4-way trailer connectors.

I have attached an installation video of both wiring harnesses for you.
