Towing Capacity of 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins

Question:

Hello I have 2001 2500 dodge cummins. It is equipped with 3.55 gears in the rear end and has the 4 speed automatic. Was wondering the max tow weight for this vehicle? Havet found a real straight answer on it. Thank you for your help.

The truck owner's manual is the best place to confirm its capabilities, such as towing capacity, but if this is not available the best alternative is to contact a dealership with your truck's VIN. This allows the dealership to see all of the equipment installed on the truck at the time of production.

Note that a specific truck can have different towing capacities for a 5th wheel trailer that uses an in-bed hitch than for a bumper-pull trailer that uses a hitch receiver. Engine, transmission, cab style and bed length can also affect tow ratings so the VIN is your best bet since it captures all data on the vehicle's components.

I did find some data online with tow ratings, but again I urge you to check using your VIN. Note that the rear axle gear ratio shown for the 2001 2500 is 3.54. Here are the ratings I found on the DodgeRam.info site:

Ram 2500 4x2 Regular Cab = 14,150 (with 5th wheel hitch)
Ram 2500 4x2 Quad Cab = 13,850 (with 5th wheel hitch)
Ram 2500 4x4 Regular Cab = 13,700 (with 5th wheel hitch)
Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab = 11,400 (with 5th wheel hitch)
