Electric Winch with Load-Holding Brake to Lift, Hold, and Lower a Popup Camper Roof
Question:
Hello Michael, I have a pop up camper with an lt 1500 winch on it now, the winch has only been used maybe 50 times it lifts the top easily and at one time would hold the top in open position , it no longer holds the top , it currently raises easily but free spools down once I let off of the switch, I have considered replacing it with the lt2000 ,my question is will this winch considering it has dynamic breaking work well for this application? My guess is the top probably weighs less than 1000 lbs. thanks in advance for your assistance.

The dynamic brake on the Superwinch LT2000 winch # 1120210 is not meant to hold a load indefinitely so it would not really be the best option for you. I recommend a winch that has mechanical braking. Or you could use a worm gear winch which has a natural brake when the drum is not turning. But electric worm gear winches can be pricey.
For a less costly winch that has a load-holding brake I recommend the Superwinch LT3000 winch, # SW1130220. It is a step up from the LT2000.
