How To Find Boat Trailer Rectangular Axle Capacity For Snowco Trailer
Question:
Hello, I just recently acquired a Snowco boat trailer. The axle is 1 1/4 x 2 1/2 rectangle. The wheels are 205 70 r 14 . on a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. what would the axle capacity be? Hard to find info on this old trailer, no markings or plates left on the axle just the old name on the fender under the rust. any help would be appreciated.

Square and rectangular axles do not have the capacities listed based on their dimensions. It can be tough to determine what the capacity is, especially since Snowco is no longer in business.
We can get close to the capacity if you can give me some more information. We would need the bearing numbers. If you remove the wheel and hub you can typically find the bearing number on the bearing in the location noted in the attached photo.
If you are unable to get the number off the bearing you can use a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and take some measurements on the spindle where the bearings and seals ride.
I have attached a link to our product page you can check out. Just use the filters on the page to find the hub by choosing the right bolt pattern and bearings.
