Winch to Lift a Slot Car Table Up Vertically
Question:
I want to winch up/down a 200 lb maximum slot car table. I understand the use of safety chains once the table is stored in the up position and will use of course. I get that the winches come with safety pawls to raise the load without runaway. My question is lowering the table? Not sure which hand winch will let me lower the 200 lb vertical load slowly with braking action. Thanks and you guys have a great website.

The perfect winch for you is going to be a worm gear winch. They were made with these types of applications in mind. We have some that mount to the ceiling like # DL10954 so you would not have to necessarily use any pulley blocks to get a straight line pull.
Worm gear winches brake automatically if you let go of the handle no matter which way you are turning it. The only issue you might run into is that worm gear winches require a lot of handle turns for 1 turn of the drum. But on some you can attach a power drill and turn it very fast such as # DL11011.
We also have an electric hoist, # DL25727, that you might be interested in. Since it is electric you won't have to worry about cranking a handle. The 1200 pound capacity is also way more than enough for a 200 pound load.
