V-Bar Icebreakers

V-Bar Icebreakers

The V-shaped studs (also known as icebreakers, spikes, or cleats) that are built into these twist-link tire chains bite into ice, providing superior grip for a safer ride on ice-covered roads.

Installation

1. Drape the chain over the tire, making sure that the V-bars are facing out.

2. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

3. Fasten the ends of the chain together.

4. Use the cam tensioning devices that are built into the side chain to tighten. Do this by inserting the flat end of the included wrench into the slot on each cam and twisting it.

5. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners Review

Today well be taking a look at the Titan Snow Chain with Cam Tightener, Part Number TC3827CAM. These are the V-bar links which are reinforced. Theyre going to provide you with excellent snow and ice traction. They do fit a wide variety of tire sizes, anywhere from a 275/65-16 up to 32x11.50-16-1/2, so there are certainly a wide variety of tire sizes or applications that would be available for this chain. Heres the storage bag that will come with your Titan chain. The installation instructions are right here on the bag. Steps 1 through 9 makes it very simple for you to get them on.

It also lists out the tire sizes here on the front that it will work with. For the installation of our chain, first step is to lay it out, get all the tangles and kinks out of it. We want to make sure, of course, that our V-bars are faced outward and also our hooks. We dont want these hooks getting into the side of this tire into the side wall, doing any damage, so those will be faced upward. Were going to go up and over our tire when we install them. Grab our chains, place them up and over our tire, and just fall into place. Were going to bring this front edge down right underneath our tire there.

Because were going to roll the truck forward, were going to want this area to be contacting the ground, so were going to run over not into the first section of chain but the second section of chain, and thats where well begin getting our fasteners on there. Take our link here, connect that to the hook, then well come around this side. Now over here on the front side, were going to connect these links into our tensioner here. Weve got a Manufacturer recommends staying within one or on the second one in the back, so well have to do the first, second, or third. Were going to try the third first. We should be able to get it tight with the tensioners weve got.

Just secure that there. Now well need to get our tensioning tool and tighten our three tensioners up. Well take our tensioning tool. Were going to take the flattened end, stick it into the hole there, and then rock it forward. Its going to fall into that point right there. We recommend the use of a cable tensioner, of course, with any set of tire chains you might have.

This one is produced by Titan Chains, Part Number TC0A3, and youll use it with the hooks out. We want to come up to your chain, hook it on. It can be evenly spaced, or it doesnt have to be exact. This will further secure our tire chain to our vehicle, to our tire, keep it safe. With our tire chain secure, were going to go ahead and take them out, see how they operate in the snow. That will complete todays look at the Titan Chain with Cam Tighteners, Part Number TC3827CAM. .

Do you have a question about this Tire Chain?

  • 2007 Saturn Vue Snow Chain Availability
  • If your 2007 Saturn Vue's owners manual says to not use snow chains we can't safely recommend you do so. However, there are a few S rated snow chains available for your tire size that aren't crazy expensive. Part # TC3810CAM, # PW2119V, # TC3010, and part # TC2318 are just a few. For your situation the best solution I could recommend would be to get another set of wheels for your vehicle and have snow tires mounted to them. Snow tires are a great solution as they do not require you to...
